Three ways to improve your health long term
- Become proactive with your health:
- Seek information regarding health from a qualified holistic practitioner, to help prevent ill health and support individual health long term.
- Take charge of your own body and learn from it. Even when you may feel well, it’s important to also track your health and monitor changes over time. This way you have better control over what you can change that can make all the difference in support of a healthier future.
- Measure your health:
- Where do you sit on the spectrum of optimal health?
- Discuss methods with your health practitioner on how you can measure and manage your health. The Naturopaths at Core can provide you with the testing and support to do just that.
- Remember it’s not all about physical health. Other contributors to our health such as environmental and psychological factors have the potential to negatively impact on our health both now and in the future. Ask your health practitioner to help you understand how to acknowledge these areas specific to your life, and how you can manage them better.
- Be mindful:
- Just knowing what to do doesn’t always bring about the desire to act. It can be challenging to modify habitual behaviours, such as those around poor quality diets and damaging lifestyles.
- Solution? Start small. A great way to start is by improving the quality of your diet. Yes we all know eating healthy is important, but it’s actually crucial to our long term health success. When in doubt, choose wholefoods over packaged or highly processed foods. That’s not to say that all processed foods are bad for us, but that it’s the quality of these packaged foods that can be overlooked. Look at the product and read the labels to find out about its ingredients and how and where the product is produced.
- Easiest method for this is to Choose Australian certified organic, wherever possible. It is more expensive, but you can buy it in bulk, and just start with staples. The foods you eat most often and more regularly. These alone could greatly reduce the amount of toxins entering your body via the foods you eat.
- To further reduce the toxins we are exposed to, choose natural based organic personal care and household items. These aren’t always more expensive. There are some great affordable products available that have less harmful chemicals then regular products. Using an oil such as Coconut or Jojoba oil as an all round moisturiser is a great option, and lasts ages as a little goes a long way. With house cleaning, there are some great natural varieties ready available, or simply go back to basics. White vinegar is a great base cleaner. Add some essential oils such as eucalyptus, peppermint oil, lemon and tea tree oils for a gorgeous fresh scent and also their antibacterial qualities! These oils usually last ages if stored correctly and are more cost efficient, as they are used in small amounts mixed with vinegar and/or water. Most importantly, they are better for the health of you and your family.
