Take heed of what your body is telling you!
Peter Thompson, our resident chiropractor and osteopath has these words of wisdom to share with us.
The best general advice I give to my patients is this:
Take heed of what your body is telling you. If you don’t listen and act on the first message, the body will repeat itself in a stronger, more forceful manner. If this message is ignored, the body will repeat itself again. This time it will be in a much harsher tone. Eventually, you will listen.
The body, communicating through the nervous system, needs to be heard. Survival often depends on warnings being acted on in an effective and timely manner.
These warning messages are not delivered as an intellectual instruction. Rather, they take the form of relatively primitive sensations such as pain, nausea, difficulty performing action and a myriad of other sign or symptoms.
We must learn the language of this primitive communication. Understanding comes from paying attention and maintaining awareness even if our first response is to minimize and distance ourselves from the disturbing feeling.
Use common sense, past personal experience and our knowledge of the experiences of others in determining the significance and importance of these early warning signs.
