System Science and Functional Healthcare
Applying a Systems Science approach for better health management and outcomes when managing chronic disease
At Core Naturopathics we offer strategies we believe everyone can understand and get behind.
Our goal is to offer individuals, parents and caregivers facing chronic disease some new ways of thinking about what you do every day and how the parts interact. Moreover, to get you to reframe what you think you know about disease, connect you to a broader world view, to turn your answers and constraints into questions and open you up to new possibilities.
System science – insights into cure
Systems science is a broad class of analytical approaches that aim to uncover the behaviour of complex systems – as found for example in nature and our bodies.
As a whole, systems methodologies enable us to examine system components, and the dynamic relationships between them, at multiple levels, from cell to society.
Here, the emphasis is placed on understanding the whole system, rather than focusing exclusively on individual components[i]. In the case of integrative or complementary healthcare, this translates as identifying and removing the cause of disease, not only treating the resulting symptoms.
Interestingly, many parallels can be drawn between system science and the study and principles of Naturopathy.
Naturopathy is a dynamic system which considers the facts and theories from every area of study that has anything to do with health such as anatomy, physiology, psychology, sociology, pathology, physics, nutrition, human biology and history, archaeology, and our relation to the natural world.
Moving beyond the current symptom based model of healthcare
New research and new technology has uncovered previously hidden interconnections allowing us to work in ways that simply where not possible even a handful of years ago.
Auto-immune disease, autism and cancer (as common examples of chronic disease conditions) are so diverse in their presentation that what works for one person won’t work for another. You are essentially embarking on a clinical trial of ‘one’, and will need to pull together a strategy of your own to meet your individual needs.
Core Naturopathics’ study and implementation in the fields of epigenetics, systems biology, gut microbiology, nutrigenomics and neuroscience has enabled us to create the organisational framework behind our Better Health Management (BHM) Program.
Better Health Management – a system approach
The Core Naturopathics program is a common sense approach using well known health practices and natural therapies. Our program is based on solid science and provides an organized framework and guidance to correct body chemistry by:
- Regulating inflammation and oxidation processes
- Optimising pH
- Supporting immune function
- Correcting nutrient imbalances
- Detoxifying heavy metals and other environmental toxins
- Ensuring appropriate sun exposure, dietary choices and exercise
- Practices to quiet the mind
- Allowing time for results
- Having a purpose and enjoying life…
The goal of this ‘deceptively simple’ approach is to build and ensure a healing surplus of vital energy. You can ‘reverse engineer’ any disease to a disruption of cellular oxygen delivery, energy production and DNA expression without ever focusing on its downstream symptoms.
Systems science advocates that small adjustments can sometimes trigger big changes. These strategies are safe, relatively simple and often effective in their own right (even more so in combination).
In essence, all therapy is focused on the need to support and re-establish optimal cellular environment and capacity. In this scenario disease cannot remain or manifest.
At the very least the whole body approach we suggest will help make you healthier and better able to handle the symptoms of your condition. The key to change is education and our program is designed to this end and helps to facilitate what can be a daunting, difficult and sometimes overwhelming process when dealing with chronic disease.

But whether using hyperbaric oxygen, PEMT, RIFE, herbal medicines, dietary supplements, a personalised nutrition plan, acupuncture, chiropractic care, massage or kinesiology; the target of therapy is the same – that of supporting self-regulation (homeostasis or balance) and the body’s innate capacity to cure itself.
