The human body is a finely tuned organism which is capable of self-healing given the correct monitoring, treatment and support.
The practice of Naturopathy has as its primary goal one of supporting self-repair. This approach is arguably the most appropriate in facing the challenge of chronic disease & the broad range of syndromes.
What Sets Us Apart?
Our underlying philosophy of care is one of supporting the body’s own innate sense of order and movement towards health!
No-one doubts that self-repair is a vital phenomenon. However, modern medicine has moved away from the classic principle that all healing is self-healing. No drug or surgery actually heals; its value is in reducing pain and distress, returning an acceptable function and at best enabling spontaneous repair to occur when it had previously been prevented. The healing power of life is the only healer and the physician should do no more than help it on its way. This is our guiding ideal.
Natural therapists have no problem with the modern allopathic (conventional medicine) strategy; in many circumstances, it is certain that it can save lives and protect health in ways inconceivable to pre-scientific medicine.
Who Can Benefit From Naturopathic Practice?
Because of the holistic nature of treatment, all individual problems may be treated with a Naturopathic approach. Chronic conditions that have not responded to conventional medicine may particularly benefit from the Naturopathic approach. These include:
- Sport and Peak Performance
- Stress and Mood Disorders
- Thyroid Disorders
- Immune Support
- Children’s Development & Behaviour
- Wellness and Healthy Aging
- Weight Management
- Digestive and Gut Support
- Musculoskeletal & Anti-inflammatory
- Cardiovascular Support
- Fatigue and Weakness
- Male Support
- Fertility Management
- Environmental Illnesses
- Allergy & Respiration
- Cancer Support
How It Works
Our approach seeks to treat the whole person: physical, emotional, social, and spiritual. This is also known as Homeostasis.
Illness is often considered the result of the loss of balance between these personal aspects, and therapy is directed at restoring balance and integration, whether it be via optimising biochemistry through nutrient therapy or improving the quality of sleep with herbal remedies and relaxation techniques.
Prevent illness and aim for optimal health and involve the patient in this aim.
All treatment regimes are tailored in response to the unique totality of the individual rather than to a disease entity. In this way Naturopathic Medicine aims to treat the causes of illness rather than suppress its symptoms.
Above all, cause no harm.
What Does a Consultation Entail?
In the initial consultation, which typically lasts up to an hour, a thorough testing protocol is undertaken including a physical examination, clinical and laboratory diagnostic tests. The second consultation includes an overview of test results, an exploration of diet, lifestyle, stress, and environmental factors; and the initiation of a treatment plan.
A treatment plan usually includes lifestyle modifications (e.g., sleep, exercise and relaxation practices), dietary recommendations, herbal remedies &/or nutritional supplements.
How long is this going to take?
Treatment of chronic problems is sometimes slow, taking months, but a permanent change and relative freedom from side effects are more than adequate compensation.
Generally some improvement will be noted within a few days to weeks, although this varies and depends to a great extent on how much effort the patient is prepared to make on his or her own behalf. As a general rule, treatment duration is around 1-3 months for each year the problem has persisted.
