Lose weight AND nourish your body
The dictionary meaning nourish is “to provide what is necessary for life, growth, and health”. In terms of food this means foods that are nutrient dense, foods that retain a vital life force, foods that are fresh, foods that are gentle on digestive processes, and foods that are real. By real foods I mean those closest to the way nature intended. So, how do we incorporate nourishing foods into everyday life –
• By only buying foods in their most basic form (not processed and packaged into snacks and instant meals)
• By eating slow cooked stews and soups
• By eating organic produce
• By using bone broths
• By eating a wide variety of fresh vegetables in season
• By incorporating plenty of healthy omega3 fats into the diet (sustainable fish, walnuts, seeds, organic eggs, wild rice, pulses)
• By drinking filtered water and herbal teas
• By using fresh herbs in cooking
• By switching to Himalayan crystal salt
• By eating fresh fruits in season
• By eating fermented foods (sauerkraut, kimchi, kombucha tea)
• By using coconut oil, avocado oil, and virgin olive oil (only for cold foods)
• By cooking with safe utensils and cookware
• By eating slowly and in a relaxed environment
• By making ethical food choices when we can
• By buying local
• By being grateful for the foods we receive
By being mindful about the foods we eat we not only help ourselves but our families, communities, and the wider environment.
